In 1996 Lori Bevan and Keith R. Herrmann moved to Moab, an area that over the years they had come to love for its beauty and lifestyle. Along the way, Lori came up with the idea to build and operate a unique bed and breakfast. With inheritance money from her father's estate, she bought some land in Red Rock Country.

Feeling like pioneers from the past, Lori and Keith built Adobe Abode by themselves – every nail, every board, every detail – and experienced all the aches, pains and hopes that come with fulfilling a dream.

Lori and Keith met in 1989. Both had two children. After the children grew up and moved away – and Lori and Keith got their lives back – they were faced with the question of "what do we do now?" They had been visiting Moab as tourists for several years. The answer to the question was to find a way to live here. That's when the bed and breakfast idea popped into Lori's head. They had never operated a bed and bed and breakfast, but there was no stopping her. Once the seed was planted, she never looked back.

They scribbled ideas on napkins and note pads, eventually moving to a drawing board and computer screen. Once they had a plan, they sold everything and moved to Moab. Keith put stumbling blocks up, but Lori continued to move forward. Once he said, "The only way we can do this is to build it ourselves." She said, "Okay."

Construction started in the spring of 1997. Two years and four months later they moved in. It took another year and a half to put in the finishing touches. Adobe Abode Bed & Breakfast opened its doors to guests in 2001.

Lori passed away in December 2002. Keith continues to operate Adobe Abode, including adding two additional rooms. The house stands as a tribute to Lori Bevan, a comfortable retreat in a beautiful setting. Without her, Adobe Abode would not exist. Hard work, dedication and great courage made the dream come true. Love created the dream and Adobe Abode stands filled with that love.
